Traineeships

What do we offer?

Traineeship opportunities are published on our vacancies page in so-called Vacancy Notices.

Length: Traineeships are offered for an initial period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension for another 6 months (max. 12 months).

Key dates: As a general rule, traineeships are organised via 2 yearly intakes:

- In spring: from 1 April until 30 September. (approx. publication period: October to November)

- In autumn: from 1 October until 31 March. (approx. publication period: April to May)

Financial deal: Traineeships encompass full-time work experience at SatCen, (40 hours a week) and trainees receive a monthly stipend of €1,000 plus a transport allowance of €185.21.

In addition, for trainees joining SatCen from more than 100 km distance, a contribution to travel expenses upon joining and leaving the SatCen may be offered. Disabled trainees may receive a supplement to their monthly allowance equal to a maximum of 50% of the amount of the allowance, to help cover extra expenses (e.g. transport, cost of special accommodation) related to their disability.

Mentorship: Trainees are assigned a mentor who is responsible for establishing their individual learning goals, supervising their work and monitoring their progress on a regular basis, as well as providing them guidance on career and development. Trainees have the opportunities to learn about SatCen’s mission and activities, attend workshops, participate in meetings and have access to other competency development opportunities.

Who can apply?

Candidates must:

  • Be nationals of the Member States of the European Union.
  • Have completed at least the first (minimum three-year) cycle of a higher education course (university education) and obtained a full degree or its equivalent by the starting date of the traineeship.
  • Have a very good knowledge of at least two EU languages, of which one should be English (minimum level of B2 (1)), the working language of the SatCen.

If successful, SatCen will request from your National Security Agency (NSA) a personnel security clearance certificate.

What happens then?

We will assess all applications to see how well the candidates meet the listed requirements. Candidates who best match the profile will be invited for a remote interview. They may also be asked to complete a written test.

Successful candidates will be informed and they will receive a traineeship agreement to sign.

Internships

Internship opportunities are offered to undergraduate university students. The objectives of the student internship are:

  • To provide undergraduate students with an understanding of the mission and activities of SatCen
  • To enable undergraduate students to acquire practical experience and knowledge of the day-to-day work of SatCen Divisions and Units
  • To enable undergraduate students to put into practice the knowledge acquired during their studies, or professional experience

What do we offer?

Internship opportunities are published on our vacancies page in so-called Vacancy Notices.

Length: Internships are offered for a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 months. This period may be extended in accordance with the university requirements.  

Key dates: As a general rule, internships are organised via 2 yearly intakes:

- In spring: from 1 June until 31 August. (approx. publication period: December to February)

- In autumn: from 1 October until 31 December. (approx. publication period: April to June)

Financial deal: Internships encompass full-time work experience at SatCen, (40 hours a week) and interns receive a monthly stipend of €600.

In addition, for interns joining SatCen from more than 100 km distance, a contribution to travel expenses upon joining and leaving the SatCen may be offered.

Mentorship: Interns are assigned a mentor who is responsible for establishing their individual learning goals, supervising their work and monitoring their progress on a regular basis, as well as providing them guidance on career and development.

Who can apply?

Candidates must:

  • Be nationals of the Member States of the European Union.
  • Must be enrolled in a university study program and attend their final year of study at the time of application. An agreement may be drawn up with the student’s university for the internship to serve as an integral part of the student’s training.
  • Have a very good knowledge of at least two EU languages, of which one should be English (minimum level of B2 (2)), the working language of the SatCen.
  • SatCen wishes to offer to as many people as possible the opportunity of training. Therefore, applications will not be accepted from candidates who, for more than six weeks, have already benefited or benefit from any kind of training within an EU institution, body, agency or office or who have had or have any kind of employment within an EU institution, body, agency or office.

If successful, SatCen will request from your National Security Agency (NSA) a personnel security clearance certificate.
