Visit of Parliamentary Delegation of the Czech Republic
On 8 June 2022, a delegation from both parliamentary chambers of the Czech Republic, the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, visited the Centre.
The SatCen Director, Amb. Sorin Ducaru, welcomed the delegation, headed by the Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, with the Chairpersons and representatives from the two Committees on EU and European Affairs.
Under the leadership of the ambassador of the Czech Republic to Spain, embassy staff accompanied and supported the delegation.
The Director briefed the visitors about the SatCen mission, its activities and the current development scenario, given the increased EU level of ambition in security and defence as much as in the light of the current crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Head of Operations Division, Mr Alvaro Rodríguez, presented the positive effect of the SatCen analysis services for the EU strategic autonomy, and the high value returned to the Member States based on their respective contribution to the Centre's mission.
The Deputy Head of Copernicus at SatCen, Ms Alessandra Ussorio, briefed the delegation on SatCen's cooperation initiatives, especially on the strong involvement in the Copernicus security programme, namely the Support to External Action service. She explained the various support options for the Member States, as well as the role of the EU SST and the R&I projects the Centre is conducting.
The members of the delegation raised various questions in the discussion about the spectrum of support options the Centre provides through its analysis services, and the efficient use of data with a factual “pooling and sharing” through the agency.
The visit concluded with a brief tour of the facilities and a warm thank you from participants to the SatCen Director and staff for the informative introduction and overview.
