Dr Paulo Lourenço, Directorate General of Defense Policy, Portugal, visits SatCen
On 31 August, Dr Paulo Lourenço, Director of the Directorate General of Defense Policy, Portugal, visited the EU Satellite Centre with a delegation. They were welcomed by the SatCen Director, Ambassador Sorin Ducaru, as well as the Head of Operations Divisions, Mr Adriano Baptista, the Head of the IT Division, Mr Alexis Letulier, and the Head of the SSA Unit, Mr Joāo Alves.
Director Ducaru provided an update on the SatCen mission and its unique operational role, including the agency´s analysis activities and governance, covering both current challenges and the Centre’s future perspective. The briefings included new IT developments and various, often in-house developed tools as well as analysis techniques, demonstrating the agency´s readiness for technological challenges.
During a visit to the Operations area, SatCen imagery analysts presented examples from the agency’s services portfolio, including products as part of the Copernicus Service in Support to EU External Action.
The Centre’s experts also provided an overview of its collaboration activities in the field of space surveillance and tracking (SST).
Throughout the various presentations, Director Ducaru highlighted the SatCen´s added value for Member States as the agency’s main stakeholders, and how the national governments could benefit from their close involvement with the Centre’s activities.
To conclude the visit, the delegation and the SatCen experts used the opportunity to exchange their views and perspectives on the Centre´s mission and its future evolution.
