Visit of a French Ministry of Defence Delegation to SatCen

On 15 October 2021, SatCen Deputy Director Louis Tillier hosted a French delegation from the Ministry of Defence – DGRIS (Directorate-General for International Relations and Strategy). The visit provided an opportunity for a firsthand presentation of the capabilities and operational activity of the Centre and helped deepen understanding of the areas and domains of support for EU’s Strategic Autonomy.


Amongst other issues, the delegation was briefed by Deputy Director Tillier on the current activities of the Centre along with plans for future developments. SatCen expert staff presented the Centre’s geospatial analysis support to the European Union’s CFSP (Common Foreign Security Policy), especially the CSDP (Common Security and Defence Policy), and discussed current and future threats in the Space domain.


SatCen unique role as “Front Desk” service provider within EU Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) Support Framework was also presented by Mr Joao Alves, Head of SSA/SST. Mr Alves provided relevant and timely examples of recent activities in which the Front Desk was involved.


Specific focus was placed on how SatCen activities support Member States and how the Centre’s culture of innovation foments newly developed IT and AI tools. Mr Alexis Letulier, Head of IT Division, discussed current and future projects in this regard.


The delegation expressed great interest in the various areas of work and initiatives pursued by the Centre.
