Swiss Ambassador Giulio Haas visits SatCen
On 4 October 2018, H.E. Ambassador Giulio Haas, Embassy of Switzerland in Spain, together with Defence Attaché Lt. Col. Michel Rossier and Cultural and Science Attaché Mr. Alberto Giovanetti, visited SatCen and was given an overview of the Centre’s activities.
They were welcomed by Director Pascal Legai and Deputy Director Giuseppe D’Amico who, together with other SatCen managers, presented the Centre’s operational and capability development activities.
Mr. Giulio Haas studied at the University of Bern and has a PhD in Law. In 1988, he started his diplomatic studies in the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation (DFAE) being stationed in Geneva (GATT), Bangkok and Bern, where he was a member of the delegation negotiating the European Economic Area. In 1994, he was stationed in Caracas as Deputy Head of the Embassy. In 1996, he returned to Bern, where he was a member of the delegation negotiating the first bilateral integration package.
From 2001 to 2006, he headed the economic section of the Swiss Embassy in Washington and, from 2006 to 2008, he was Director General for Economic, Financial and Energy Affairs. In 2008, Giulio Haas left the DFAE and became a member of the executive direction of the Wegelin Bank with Headquarters in Chur, Switzerland. In 2013, he returned to the DFAE to be stationed as Swiss Ambassador in Iran. Since September 2017, he is Ambassador of Switzerland for Spain and Andorra.
