SatCen supports the implementation of the security proposals in H2020 AI4Copernicus project

The winning proposals of the 1st & 2nd rounds of Open Calls for the H2020 AI4Copernicus project were announced on 3rd March 2022 during an award ceremony.

The online event, chaired by the AI4Copernicus Coordinator and with the presence of European Commission representants, presented several projects aiming at reinforcing the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the Earth Observation (EO) ecosystem, in order to develop on-demand EO AI solutions for a number of technological, business and societal challenges. AI4Copernicus implements an open calls mechanism where a series of 4 open calls in the domain of Security, Energy, Agriculture, and Health have been planned.

SatCen, as a member of the AI4Copernicus consortium, supports through its RTDI Unit the implementation of open calls winning projects related to Security.

Three projects were awarded in this domain:

  • SR4C3, Super Resolution for Climate Crisis Context (consortium SISTEMA GmbH -AT-, CMC Consulting -BE-). The project aims at bringing innovation to the climate/humanitarian/conflict crisis sectors by enhancing the remote sensing-based technological tools through the application of AI algorithms for Super-Resolution on security domain challenges.
  • VALENS, AI 4 Copernicus Blue (consortium Lelieur BV -BE-, VAKE -NO-, NSAS BVBA -BE-).The project aims at creating a platform for deep maritime insight, producing live alerts of high-risk vessels for surveillance plane guidance, and historical analysis to provide the past location and activity of vessels for potential proof for prosecution.   
  • HumanityWatch, (consortium Pixstart -FR-, KeyAid Consulting -FR-). The project aims at addressing NGO needs for knowledge of actual geophysical states surrounding villages caught by a crisis (available water, refugees camps size, agriculture status and capacity).
