Representatives of the Spanish National Police and the National Geographic Institute visit SatCen
On 19 July 2018, representatives of the General Immigration and Borders Headquarters of the Spanish General Police Directorate and a representative of the Spanish Geographic Institute visited SatCen. The purpose of the visit was to learn more about the support SatCen can offer within the framework of the Copernicus Security Service, in particular the Copernicus Services in Support to EU External Action (SEA), of which SatCen is the coordinator.
Copernicus SEA assist the EU in its operations outside EU territory, providing decision makers and other actors with geo-information on remote areas, which are difficult to access, and where security issues are at stake.
The services are categorised by their application domain: political and armed conflicts, situation awareness, humanitarian support, border surveillance (outside the EU) and activity monitoring.
Examples of products provided are reports on changes in refugee camps and reference maps in support to EU missions and EU delegations for the preparation of evacuation plans. See the page on Copernicus Services in Support to EU External Action.
