Mr Pierre Delsaux, Deputy Director-General, DG GROW, European Commission, visits SatCen
On 18 July 2018, Mr Pierre Delsaux, Deputy Director-General at the European Commission Directorate General for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SME’s, visited SatCen.
He was led to the Operations Division, where SatCen Director Pascal Legai gave a general introduction followed by more in-depth presentations by other SatCen managers on SatCen’s operational, capability development and cooperation activities. The Team Leaders of the different image analysis teams in the Operations Division then showed Mr Delsaux specific examples of SatCen support within the framework of the Copernicus services in Support to EU External Action and other examples of support to users such as the European External Action Service, the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine and Frontex. Finally, he was led to the Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) Unit for a presentation of SatCen SST activities. The visit concluded with a round table discussion.
Pierre Delsaux studied Law at the University of Liège, Belgium, and obtained his Master of Law at the Northwestern University, Chicago, in 1983. He was Legal Secretary at the European Court of Justice from 1984 to 1987. He worked in the private sector before joining the European Commission in 1991, where he started in the Directorate General for Competition. He was appointed Director responsible for regulating the financial services in 2007. Following this, in 2011, he was appointed Deputy Director General with responsibilities for the Single Market in the EU. Since December 2015, he is in charge of Space Policy and Defence.
