SatCen participates in the GEO Week 2021

Each year, the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) organizes the GEO Week, aimed at bringing together leading experts in the EO field to discuss current and emerging societal challenges. This year’s theme of “Accelerating Action” addressed one of the most important major milestones linked to global policy agendas: climate change.

GEO Week 2021, which took place virtually from 22-26 November 2021, presented the many activities of the GEO work programme, from Climate Change and Sustainable Development to Biological Diversity. Moreover, the event highlighted how the use of Earth Observation in different sectors contributes to these efforts and why integration across thematic areas is essential.

Under the session “EO as a key tool to ensure civil security for society”, Sergio Albani, Head of SatCen RTDI Unit and leader of the GEO Space and Security Community Activity, presented how EO supports civil security for society from a global and holistic perspective. The session also counted with the participation of the European Commission (EC), European Space Agency (ESA) and World Food Programme (WFP).
